A graduate of Centre College and the Indiana University School of Optometry, Dr. Mooney opened the doors of Mooney EyeCare Centre in 2007 because of his deep family roots in Mt. Washington. Grandson of former Mayor Ralph Lutes, Dr. Mooney knew Mt. Washington was a growing town on the brink of a population and economic explosion. With his entrepreneurial spirit, Dr. Mooney has grown Mooney EyeCare Centre into the preeminent eye care business in eastern Bullitt County by always offering state of the art products and services to his patients.
Part of the Louisville Glaucoma Society, Dr. Mooney is one of the first optometrists in the nation to perform laser procedures to treat and prevent glaucoma. He is also the only optometrist to perform a number of minor surgical procedures right here at our office in Mt. Washington. From Optomap imaging which allows many of our patients a drop-less full retinal exam to our Diopsys VEP which measures the electrical signal that the eye sends to the brain, Dr. Mooney has equipped Mooney EyeCare Centre with many technological advances not found in the majority of vision care practices throughout the nation.
A humble and effective communicator, Dr. Mooney’s breadth of ocular disease and practice management knowledge has other doctors and business owners from across Kentucky consulting with him to improve their patient care. His exceptional ability to listen and communicate with patients both young and old has earned the respect and loyal business of patrons from Shively to Taylorsville. From great grandmothers to great grandchildren, Dr. Mooney has developed a patient base to reflect our motto, “Complete Care for the Entire Family!”
