Dr. Young

 

 

 

Dr. Stuart Young’s professional passion and expertise is in the field of vision therapy where he has extensive experience treating both adults and children dealing with a wide variety of binocular vision disorders including: strabismus (eye turn), amblyopia (lazy eye), convergence insufficiency, saccadic dysfunction (poor tracking), accommodative dysfunction (poor visual focusing skills), and diplopia (double vision). Dr. Young also has extensive experience in the field of neuro-optometric vision rehabilitation. He works with patients suffering visual symptoms resulting from concussions, strokes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and other acquired/traumatic brain injuries.

Originally from California, he graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho with a degree in Biology Education. Dr. Young attended Indiana University School of Optometry for his doctorate degree (O.D.).  Following graduation from IU, Dr. Young completed a residency in vision therapy and binocular vision and is one of the few optometrists in the state of Kentucky to have completed an extensive Fellowship from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development which is the national organization for vision therapy and binocular vision disorders.

Dr. Young also practices primary care optometry.  He treats patients needing glasses and contacts.  He also monitors and treats patients with diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, conjunctivitis, cataracts, and other ocular diseases. He is a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Kentucky Optometric Association.

Dr. Young lives in Shelbyville and loves to spend time with his family.  He and his wife Heather have three daughters who are involved in a wide variety of activities.  Dr. Young also loves to play and watch sports, read and go on bike rides, and go hiking when time allows.  He has also learned how to make balloon animals and often gives them out after eye exams.
